POlyaspartic Flooring vs Epoxy Floor Coatings

Polyaspartic Flooring

  • Hard, flexible finish is more durable and won’t scratch or scuff.

  • With polyaspartic coatings one layer dries in an hour or less.

  • For those interested in DIY installation, you can apply with a squeegee or roller brush, and short drying time requires accuracy.

  • Polyaspartic floor coatings have low VOCs and virtually no off-gassing makes this product odorless.

  • Smooth surface poses slipping risk, so traction additives are recommended.

  • A polyaspartic coating won’t fade or yellow even after extended UV exposure.

Epoxy Floor Coating

  • High-quality epoxy coating is incredibly durable; it is water- and scratch-resistant.

  • Epoxy coatings don’t have grout lines and the smooth, seamless surface is easy to clean.

  • The best epoxy systems come with a special anti-slip coating to prevent slipping.

  • Epoxy floor coatings are durable and are impact and chemical resistant.

  • Epoxy-coated floors contract and expand under different weather conditions.

  • Sunlight and high heat won’t damage or cause discoloration.

  • Epoxy floor coating is versatile and easy to customize at affordable prices.

Epoxy Floor Coating Installation Process

EPOXY FLOOR COATING INSTALLATION PROCESS

Epoxy floor coating installation is a relatively straightforward process but requires specialized tools and experience.

There are six steps to correctly install epoxy floor coatings.

  1. This first step helps to ensure that the finished floor coating is smooth and long-lasting. We clean and vacuum the floor to remove the micro-dust. We use an industrial-grade vacuum to maximize our efficiency. Additionally, we clean any chemicals or oils from the floor.

  2. The second step involves priming the floor so that it accepts the finished coating. We apply an epoxy primer to promote better adhesion. The use of primer means we use less product overall.

  3. We fill any cracks or holes in the floor using a specialized epoxy grout. THis helps hide any imperfections that might show in the finished product.

  4. During this step, we apply the epoxy coating. Especially in this initial layer, we pay attention to the fine details and we use high-quality rollers to ensure a smooth finished product.

  5. After 15 to 24 hours after the first epoxy layer is applied to the floor, we lightly sand any imperfections visible to the naked eye to remove them. We then vacuum once more to ensure a clean surface for the final layer.

  6. In this last step, we apply the second and final epoxy floor coating application. Again, ensuring the floor’s entire surface is clean first is vital. The second layer will make the floor color and seamless appearance stand out and complement the space.

Advantages OF an epoxy garage floor:

Durable

Epoxy floors are almost impervious to chemicals, whether it’s oil, gasoline, bleach, transmission fluid, cleansers, and more. This is one of the prime reasons they’re excellent in garages and other surfaces in the commercial and automotive industry. Besides resistance to chemical spills and cleaners, epoxy floor coating is also heat and water-resistant. They are unaffected by most chemical spills without any adverse effects to the coating.

Permanent

Epoxy coating lasts longer than many types of flooring. When installed correctly, it can last for several decades without cracking or peeling. Besides the durability, its lifespan makes it popular for commercial and industrial use.

Attractive

Epoxy is an attractive option for flooring, as well. It’s available in a multitude of colors which add a flawless, smooth, elegant shine. The flooring can also be arranged into traditional or personalized patterns and designs. The number of options makes it an economical way to upgrade plain concrete and improve the ambiance of a home or office.
