One of the establishments where polished concrete is a welcome sight is restaurants. Restaurants have specific requirements for their flooring.
It must remain relatively clean in the course of business, it must be non-slip, and it must be reasonably attractive. Here are some of the ways that polished concrete is excellent in a restaurant setting:

Polished concrete stays clean. Most food won’t stick to the floor or become stubbornly embedded, so it’s easy to remove during the cleaning process. This is because, while polished concrete isn’t slippery, it is smooth. This makes it easy to clean, even in high traffic areas. Most owners of polished concrete use a dust mop or soft broom through the heavily trafficked areas. In a restaurant situation, an industrial-sized brush broom will swish nicely around chairs and tables to gather up the crumbs and other small bits. A final wipe with a mop will keep it looking like new.

Polished concrete is ground and honed, then polished to a high luster. The process creates a gorgeous finish, which doesn’t contain the cracks and inconsistencies of tile or vinyl.
The result is smooth, but it’s a slip-free finish. Because it’s so easy to clean, spills are easy to manage and don’t sit in wait for a fall victim. Patrons can dine and spill food and beverages, which are easily cleaned, and the floor remains relatively hygienic.

Even in establishments that have expansion cracks, since they’re few and far between, the cleaning process moves quickly.

The characteristic that most people find so outstanding from polished concrete is the shine. Gloss or matte, it has a beautiful sheen which contrasts elegantly with the underlying concrete. Because it’s easy to clean, it doesn’t have the distasteful messiness of spills. While tile can become worn out, or crack, or end up with unsightly grime in the grout, polished concrete rises above all of those things.
While it doesn’t make sense to remodel to change to a polished concrete floor for ease of cleaning, it does make sense to redo the old floor when it becomes worn and tired. In that case, polished concrete is indeed worthy of consideration as a new flooring option.
